The NES Game That Never Shipped
Capcom planned to release The California Raisins: The Grape Escape in 1991, starring the California Raisins, the claymation mascots who were everywhere in 1980s TV commercials. The game passed Nintendo's approval process in October 1991, which means the version you're playing is essentially what would have hit store shelves. By then the Raisins' popularity had faded, and Capcom shelved it.
Found in Florida, 13 Years Later
In January 2003, a prototype cartridge surfaced in Florida. Collectors went after it hard, the cart sold for around a thousand dollars, and the ROM was released online later that year. That release is the only reason this game exists for the rest of us today.
