Classic title Prototype remaster rumored from internet leak

A potential remaster of the beloved 2009 action-adventure game, Prototype, has stirred excitement among fans following a recent internet leak. The rumors suggest that the shapeshifting hero Alex Mercer may return in a refreshed version of the cult classic.

Originally released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PC, Prototype follows Alex Mercer, an amnesiac shapeshifter battling a deadly virus outbreak that transforms humans into powerful monsters. Praised for its originality, storytelling, and gameplay, the game drew comparisons to the popular Infamous franchise and became a standout title of its generation. Now, more than a decade later, fans are buzzing over the possibility of revisiting its dark, action-packed world.

The Source of the Leak

The speculation began when Reddit user Bigbyy shared details about the rumored remaster. According to their post, the information was revealed during a survey group session on Discord. Bigbyy explained that the survey, conducted by YouGov, required participants to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before confirming a list of features for upcoming games.

"It then confirmed a series of features that upcoming games will include and how popular this was with me [percentage-wise]", Bigbyy explained. "It was not a playtest but did specify that these features were already planned as part of upcoming games."

While the information remains unverified, Bigbyy revealed that the remaster would reintroduce Mercer’s ability to shapeshift and infiltrate areas by taking on the appearance of others. Additionally, they noted that the setting may shift from the original game’s Manhattan to New York, which raises questions about whether this project is a true remaster or possibly a reimagining.

Fans React to the Possibility

Although neither Radical Entertainment nor Activision has confirmed the project, fans have shared their excitement across online forums. One user on the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours expressed their eagerness, stating, "I’d prefer a remake or a whole new game but getting anything is nice." Another user, VictorVonDoomer, added, "A Prototype 1 remake would go so f***king hard."

Hope for the Future

While caution is advised as the news is still unofficial, the reaction to the leak highlights the enduring love for Prototype. Fans remain hopeful for a faithful remaster - or perhaps something entirely new - that recaptures the magic of the original. Until official confirmation is provided, now might be the perfect time to revisit this classic title in its original form.
